On Saturday, a potential robber was met with a painful lesson when he tried to steal Polyana Viana’s phone.

Speaking to Fernanda Prates of MMA junkie, the UFC fighter recalled the attempted robbery:

"When he saw I saw him, he sat next to me. He asked me the time, I said it, and I saw he wasn't going to leave. So I already moved to put my cell phone in my waist. And then he said, 'Give me the phone. Don't try to react, because I'm armed.' Then he put his hand over [a gun], but I realized it was too soft,” she said.

"He was really close to me. So I thought, 'If it's a gun, he won't have time to draw it.' So I stood up. I threw two punches and a kick. He fell, then I caught him in a rear-naked choke. Then I sat him down in the same place we were before and said, 'Now we'll wait for the police,'" she added.

Viana stated that she later discovered that the man didn't have a gun, as he was holding a cardboard cutout in the shape of one. She revealed that this Rio de Janeiro incident wasn't the only time someone had tried to take her phone —two men had tried the same in Belem, Brazil, her old home.

The 26-year-old fighter holds a 1-1 record in UFC and 10-2 mark in MMA, but hasn’t been in a fight since her August loss to JJ Aldrich at UFC 227.
