Congressman Don Bacon, the only Republican in the 2016 House elections to unseat an incumbent Democrat, is vying for his seat in the 2024 elections. This time, Don Bacon is going up against his former opposition, State Senator Tony Vargas.

Bacon, who was born in Momence, Illinois, recently generated significant attention by promising Nebraska residents in a campaign ad that he’ll “put more money in your pocket by eliminating taxes on social security tips and overtime and I work every day to restore the American dream.” Bacon’s strong campaign is promising to push for positive legislation in key areas:

The Economy, where he has co-sponsored a bill seeking to eliminate taxes on social security.

The Border and Immigration, by co-sponsoring Sarah’s Law, which requires ICE to detain illegal immigrants who commit violent crimes.

National Security and Foreign Affairs, through his service as Chairman of the House Armed Services Committee Quality of Life Panel to address our military’s recruitment crisis and get our service members off of food stamps.

Public Safety, by introducing the Back the Blue Act of 2023 to increase penalties for criminals who attack law enforcement.

Infrastructure and Jobs, by supporting the Bipartisan Infrastructure Bill (paid for by spending offsets) to bring good paying jobs to Nebraska.

Congressman Bacon’s political career was preceded by a long illustrious career in the U.S. Air Force, and holds the Air Force Distinguished Service Medal, two Legion of Merits, and two Bronze Star Medals. His 29-year service has motivated his fight for veterans and his team’s focus on the “nation’s defense and military readiness” in the U.S. Congress.

Congressman Bacon is also a long-time ally of Israel, having “consistently spoken out against antisemitism and helped lead passage of the Never Again Education Act in Congress to provide resources for Holocaust education,” according to proisraelamerica.org.

Congressman Don Bacon has maintained that he’s “committed to an ironclad partnership with Israel. Both countries gain by our strong relationship. The state of Israel provides a safe haven for Jewish people all over the world who face rising antisemitism.” Recently, he slammed Iran’s attacks on Israel, maintaining that proxies would not be enough to deter the country from violence.

“I think we have to respond forcefully to regain deterrence, going after proxy forces…Iran doesn’t care. But if you go after Iran, they do care. And there are easy targets out there,” Congressman Bacon stated on NewsNation’s The Hill Sundays. “But Iran has to know they can’t track American or Israel and get away with it.”
