This robust performance is largely attributed to the booming artificial intelligence (AI) sector and the island’s dominant role in the global semiconductor supply chain. Economists project continued strong growth for Taiwan in 2026, with some forecasts reaching as high as 9.64%. Minister of Economic Affairs, Kung Ming-hsin, announced in July 2026 that Taiwan’s GDP per capita is expected to exceed US$45,000 this year, surpassing both Japan and South Korea.
