Man Ignores Small Lump Near His Eye for Months — Then It Starts Growing Rapidly

When a small bump appeared near his eye, an Australian man dismissed it as nothing more than a pimple. Months later, he found himself in the hospital facing emergency surgery after the growth suddenly began doubling in size.

Kai Davidson, 27, of Melbourne, first noticed the tiny lump on the side of his nose near his eye and thought little of it. A doctor confirmed it was a small cyst and advised monitoring it. For approximately nine months, the cyst remained small and barely noticeable.

Then, without warning, the cyst became infected and began expanding at an alarming rate. Davidson said it appeared to double in size nearly every day. Within a short period, the once-tiny bump had swollen into a large, painful mass that affected his vision and daily life.

Davidson required two separate surgeries to remove the infected cyst and address the surrounding tissue damage. Doctors told him the rapid growth was caused by a bacterial infection that had set in beneath the skin, turning what had been a benign cyst into an urgent medical problem.

After his recovery, Davidson shared his experience on TikTok under the handle @_lifeofkaiiii_, posting photos and video documenting the progression from small pimple to surgical emergency. The video quickly went viral, attracting over 217,000 views.

“I didn’t expect it to go viral,” Davidson told Newsweek.

Dermatologists say Davidson’s experience, while dramatic, is not uncommon. Cysts that appear harmless can become dangerous when infected, particularly when they are located near the eyes, nose, or other sensitive areas of the face. Medical professionals recommend having any persistent or growing lump evaluated by a doctor rather than ignoring it, even if it initially appears minor.

The case served as a reminder that seemingly small skin issues can escalate quickly and that early medical attention can prevent more serious complications down the road.
