A horrifying scene unfolded Sunday morning at a Kentucky church when a man opened fire, killing two women and wounding others, including a state trooper. While authorities have not yet officially confirmed the suspect’s identity, internet sleuths and social media users believe the gunman was Guy E. House, a 47-year-old Kentucky man with a lengthy criminal history—and possibly radical political leanings.

The victims, 72-year-old Beverly Gumm and her 34-year-old daughter Christina Combs, were fatally shot during the attack at Richmond Road Baptist Church. The shooter was ultimately killed by police after a chaotic multi-scene pursuit that began miles away.
Investigators have remained tight-lipped about the suspect’s identity as they work to notify next of kin, but that hasn’t stopped speculation from spreading rapidly online.

Some users on X, formerly Twitter, have described House as a “radical pro-Palestinian leftist,” citing photos from a now-public Facebook profile that allegedly show the suspect wearing Islamic garments, including a keffiyeh and kufi. The profile in question also displays images of alcohol and light political commentary targeting President Trump and Senator J.D. Vance—but no direct evidence confirming a religious conversion or militant ideology.
While some conservative commentators, including Laura Loomer, have labeled House a “Free Gaza Muslim” who “opened fire on Christians in church,” others online have expressed skepticism. One user pointed out that House has “more than a dozen arrests going back to 1999” for offenses like public intoxication, fleeing police, and illegal gun possession—raising the question of whether ideology was involved or whether this was yet another case of a violent criminal spiraling out of control.

In 2022, local media reported that a man named Guy House had been arrested after fleeing police with a loaded firearm. That incident ended peacefully after a standoff including crisis negotiators.
As the investigation continues, one thing is clear: this isn’t the first time House has had violent run-ins with law enforcement. He was reportedly due in court the day after the shooting for a hearing related to a domestic violence case.

While speculation continues to dominate social media, law enforcement has urged the public to avoid jumping to conclusions. Still, the debate rages: Was this shooting politically or religiously motivated—or simply the latest tragic result of a justice system that failed to stop a dangerous repeat offender?
Authorities are likely to release more information in the coming days. For now, the community of Lexington is left mourning two lives lost—and asking how such violence could unfold in a house of worship.
