Congressman Juan Ciscomani, up for re-election, has promised to fight for the completion of the border wall. A Republican, Ciscomani was ranked Arizona’s most bipartisan member of Congress by the Herald Review in May 2024.
In his campaign ad, Ciscomani kept his promises simple, highlighting the high cost of living and the areas he’s committed to finding solutions:
- Curbing spending
- Protecting Medicare and Social Welfare
- Supporting veterans
- Securing the border
Born in Hermosilla, Mexico, Ciscomani grew up in Tuscon, Arizona, becoming the first member of his family to attend college. He received an associate degree from Pima Community College and a bachelor’s degree from the University of Arizona. His experience as a child of legal immigrants drives his commitment to securing the border, which he maintains is “a national emergency that needs to be addressed.”
He states on his website: “Our border is completely broken, and Joe Biden and Kamala Harris are making it worse every single day. Drugs, fentanyl and mass amounts of unvetted people are flowing into our country on a daily basis, and our district is the most impacted in the nation.”
In the Arizona 6th District Congressional debate, Ciscomani explained his stance further:
“Today, we have a crisis at the border that must be addressed. Immigration laws must be updated, cross-border trade and commerce needs to continue to thrive and the border must be secured. There should be an all-of-the-above approach in regards to federal immigration policy. First, we must stop the flow of illegal immigration pouring across our border in record, unsustainable numbers. We can do that by ending catch and release, reinstate the “Remain in Mexico” policy, end the abuse of the parole authority, expand expedited removal and finish the wall. We also need more resources for law enforcement to increase the number of full-time Border Patrol officers, while allowing them to be able to use the legal tools to apprehend those who are coming here illegally and breaking the law.”
A lifelong Republican, Ciscomani worked as a senior advisor to former Governor Greg Ducey and as the vice-chair of Arizona-Mexico Commission from 2015 to 2021, before running for Congress in 2022 against Democrat candidate Kirsten Engel, who’s opposing him again in the 2024 ballot.
Ciscomani is an avid Israel supporter, having visited the site of the October 7 Hamas attack six months after the incident. Following the visit, Ciscomani stated: “Congress’s top priority must be passing an aid package to Israel,” and “America must be there for our friend in its time of need.”
Having narrowly defeated Engel in the 2022 elections, Ciscomani has his work cut out this election, especially since he reportedly declined to enter the 2024 Senatorial race.
