Police Find Women Acting Weird In Car, Weren’t Prepared For What’s Inside
A mother and daughter in Pennsylvania have been accused of using heroin while a 6-month-old baby was in the back seat of their car.
According to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, police received a call after somebody spotted a woman parked at a gas pump at a Greensburg gas station injecting herself with a syringe.
Police arrived shortly thereafter and found 23-year-old Courtney Lynn Jording and her mother, 43-year-old Karen Ann Gillespie, in possession of heroin. Gillespie was in the driver’s seat and Jording’s 6-month-old daughter was in the back seat in an unsecured car seat, wearing a wet diaper.
Greensburg Police Capt. Chad Zucco said that offices searched the vehicle and found 41 stamp bags of heroin, as well as 16 empty stamp bags of heroin, two spoons, and four syringes.
Jording and Gillespie were arrested and charged with criminal conspiracy, child endangerment, criminal use of a communication facility, and possession of drug paraphernalia with intent to manufacture or deliver. The mother and daughter were each held in the Westmoreland County Prison on $10,000 bond.
Zucco said that the Westmoreland County Children’s Bureau is working to release the baby girl to a family member.
According to Daily Mail, the mother and daughter were initially spotted shooting heroin by a Child & Youth Services employee. The employee saw Jording injecting her mother with a syringe and spotted a baby in the back seat, so she quickly called police.
“The daughter was shooting heroin into the mother’s arm while at the gas pumps,” Zucco said.
He added: “The car seat was not secured. [The girl] was just sitting in the back seat; further, the child had a wet diaper. They looked in the car to find diapers for the baby and there were none.”
“We’re thankful that we got there quick and were able to stop them quick before they got back on the road and hurt somebody or hurt the baby or anybody else,” Zucco said.
Daily Mail’s readers shared their thoughts on the story.
“It breaks my heart when I read stories about people like this and their poor children,” one user wrote. “It makes me think of all the people who would love a child but can’t have children and yet there r so many stories of children being neglected or harmed by their parents.”
“This is the sickening state of our young and even their parents!” another reader commented. “Childseat not used properly, no diapers in the car yet tons of drugs, soiled diaper on the child for how long I have to wonder? Please keep these two locked up for a long spell as the young mother needs parenting classes, as for the older mother, Just keep her locked up and away from society as she is a mental case for sure. Could have all ended much worse for all of them. These people sicken me to the core. Remove the child forever from the whole family, please.”
