A Texas woman held the door open for an elderly woman when the two were entering a restaurant at the same time. Little did the young woman know that her simple gesture would lead to an meaningful encounter that would soon go viral.

After Brooke Ochoa held the door open for an elderly woman identified only as Delores, the two had a brief conversation and found out that each one of them was there alone, so they decided to eat together instead. As the pair continued chatting over a meal, Ochoa learned a lot about Delores’ life.

The two hit it off and now plan to have lunch together every week.

Ochoa detailed the beginning of the new friendship in a Facebook post:

Today I Went to eat at a restaurant for lunch and I saw this elder lady coming from afar so I waited to hold the door for her, she was very thankful and sweet. She then told the waitress, “table for one”, so I waited and hesitated but then I walked over and said, “I’m eating by myself too would you like to have lunch together?” She was ecstatic! Come to find out she spent the last decade living with her mom who recently passed away and her aunt who recently was put into a nursing home, so she has been having a hard time being alone. We had a wonderful talk, and she just kept smiling and saying thank you for listening to me, which made me smile too! Her words healed my heart just as much as i healed her lonely one. By far the best decision I’ve made all year!!! Her name is Delores, and we will be having lunch every Thursday from now on

The touching post quickly went viral. According to WPVI, Ochoa’s post garnered more than 1.7 million likes and was shared more than 225,000 times within just a few days.

Facebook users commented on the post to share their thoughts.

“God has already blessed your kindness…you have a friend for life.. Such a smile… what the world needs,” one user commented.

“Beautiful story. Truly a blessing, I believe, for the both of you,” another user wrote. “May God continue to bless you both.”

“What a warm and Godly gesture and connection from both of you. This story really touched my heart and I pray that your luncheons continue… but most of all you all’s friendship! Simply just made my day,” added a third reader.
