RNC Chairman Priebus Blasts Trump For Sexual Comments

AmericaNow Staff  ·  October 7, 2016

Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus on Oct. 7 denounced the derogatory comments that GOP nominee Donald Trump made about women 11 years ago.

“No woman should ever be described in these terms or talked about in this manner,” Priebus said in a statement, according to Business Insider. “Ever.”

Trump’s comments came in the form of a video taken in 2005 and released on Oct. 7 by the Washington Post. In that video, Trump said on a hot microphone that he tried to “f**k” a married woman and that stars like him can get away with anything, including “grab[bing] them by the p***y.”

Other prominent Republicans joined Priebus in calling out Trump, including Sen. Jeff Flake of Arizona, who wrote on Twitter that “America deserves far better than @realDonaldTrump.”

And former presidential candidate Gov. John Kasich of Ohio called Trump’s words “wrong,” “offensive” and “indefensible.”

Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, who also ran against Trump for the Republican nomination and has said that he will not vote for him in November, had some strong words about the matter as well.

“As the grandfather of two precious girls, I find that no apology can excuse away Donald Trump’s reprehensible comments degrading women.”

Trump released a statement on his official website hours after the video surfaced.

“This was locker room banter, a private conversation that took place many years ago,” Trump said. “Bill Clinton has said far worse to me on the golf course — not even close. I apologize if anyone was offended.”

Though Kasich, Bush and others have frequently criticized the controversial nominee, Priebus has embraced Trump and has issued praise on him many times before. Shortly before the Oct. 4 vice presidential debate, Priebus called Trump a “role model” on Fox News, according to Politico.

“When you look at someone who has built businesses, lost businesses, came back, lived the American dream, a person who sets goals, he’s a winner,” Priebus said at the time.
