Six Flags Slammed Over Muslim Day

Six Flags theme parks garnered criticism for an event it called “Muslim Day,” which was created to highlight Muslim culture.

The event, which took place at Six Flags Over Georgia, was organized by the Islamic Circle of North America in conjunction with the theme park.

On the day in question, the park offered “Halal foods, open-air bazaars featuring Muslim merchants, congressional prayers, informative lectures, and a constant stream of Islamic nasheed (Muslim-approved music),” the site stated, according to Mad World News.

Muslim Day goes back much further than the Oct. 11, 2015, event that sparked intense backlash — it began in 2000 and has been protested by conservative Christian news networks and hosts like Glenn Beck. 

“What we’re arguing here is maybe Muslim Day with all of the kiddies and the, you know, the dragon, you know, floaties around them going to the water park might be in bad taste on 9/12,” Beck said after news broke that the 2010 event would be happening on the day after the anniversary of the 9/11 attacks, The Atlantic reported. 

Many readers expressed shock over the event, and called on the theme park to stop catering to Muslims.

“If parks like Six Flags and Disney World/Land want to have special days for certain groups, then they should advertise in advance,” one Mad World News reader commented on the site’s Facebook page. “Many times people plan on going to such places when their on vacation, and they have a right to know what group is being catered to on that day. Call it racist or whatever you want, but I have no interest in being sent into muslim land when I’m in a theme park. I have no problem being in a park with them, but I don’t go to be indoctrinated with their culture.”

“I will never again in any way or form go or ever allow any family I may be blessed with down the road to ever step foot near any of these disgusting places ever again,” another wrote. “Six Flags you just permanently lost one customer for life.” 

“Every non muslim need to stay from not that park on that day but all parks in this country that six flags own,” commented another reader. “Lets see if the muslims will make up for all the money they lose on that day. Or better yet show up in shorts tank tops and playing rock on their phones. Make it take all day to get everyone screened out till the parks close.”
