Woman Thrown To Ground By Officer In Shocking Clip (Video)

Shocking video of a male police officer throwing a female Colorado college student to the ground went viral (video below).

The clip was taken outside of Bondi Beach Bar in Old Town, Colorado, and shows student Michaela Surat being picked up by a police officer and thrown on the ground. In the video, Surat can be seen struggling in an altercation with the officer, who quickly grabs her by the arm and throws her to the ground before arresting her. A man standing nearby can be seen rushing to the girl’s side before being shoved out of the way.

“(Watching the video) was a little shocking, just purely from the size difference from the cop and the girl,” Fort Collins resident Jason Pocalyko told CBS4.

Fort Collins Police Services said in a statement that the incident began when officers tried to break up a fight that involved Surat’s boyfriend. The 22-year-old young woman was told the leave, according to police, but instead hit an officer.

Despite reports of Surat’s behavior towards the officer, many felt as though the force used by the officer was still too much.

“It did seem a little excessive. You can’t hear the video, and what is happening in it,” Pocalyko said. “I don’t want to make a judgement before I know all the information.”

The officers at the scene were reportedly wearing body cameras at the time, though the footage was not released pending an investigation.

“As this is still an open case, body camera video is not being released at this time,” Fort Collins police spokeswoman Kate Kimble told the Coloradoan.

Many readers criticized Surat for allegedly hitting the officer, with many saying that the force used by the officer might be justified if she truly did hit him first.

“Young people need to understand police are given authority to enforce the law…when you interfere, they have the right to hurt you…be respectful of police, they represent civil society,” one Mad World News reader commented on the site’s Facebook page.

“eople are surprised when cops don’t accept being disrespected. If she had listened there would not be a problem but the little snowflake learned there are consequences. Too bad,” another added.

“These young kids have no respect anymore for officers adults or anybody they just think they can do as they please I think they need a little more of that and maybe they will straighten the hell up start having respect for people instead of thinking it’s all about them,” another wrote.
