When four Florida men allegedly tried to break into an apartment, they were met with more than they had bargained for.

One man was shot and killed after he and three accomplices tried to break into an apartment in the middle of the night, according to the Orlando Sentinel.

Luis Robles, 29, was at home in his apartment in Four Corners, Florida, when he heard a knock on the door at about 3 a.m.

Robles looked through the peephole on his door and saw a group of men standing in the doorway. He opened the door and a man greeted Robles just before firing a shot at him. The shot missed Robles and hit the wall behind him, according to the arrest report. Robles pulled out a gun and fired back.

The assailant, later identified as 22-year-old Aswad Emmanuel Velazquez, was struck by the bullet.

Robles promptly called 911, telling a dispatcher: “I have an emergency — someone is shooting in my house.”

Aswad’s accomplices continued to fire shots, with one hitting Robles’ wife in the foot. Another suspect fired a shot at a neighbor who opened her door to see what was going on.

The suspects then fled the scene, dragging Aswad down the stairs with them. The three suspects took Aswad to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Aswad’s 19-year-old brother Isiah Velazquez, 18-year-old Tareak Ilarreza, and 22-year-old Lawrence Omar Alexis were all arrested following the incident. They are being held in the Osceola Jail without bail on charges of burglary and murder. Alexis is facing an additional charge of assault with a deadly weapon. Police say he is the one who shot Robles’ neighbor.

Robles’ wife and children were at home when the incident took place, reports WFTV. His wife is recovering from her injury after being shot in the foot.

Deputies do not plan to seek charges against Robles.

“They all got what they deserved,” another user wrote. “I doubt there is a place in heaven for him with a crime like that he’s probably done it before.”
