Sex Offender Who Raped Girl Gets Shocking Sentence
A convicted sex offender who raped and impregnated a 12-year-old girl was sentenced to 20 years in prison.
Jose Caracciolo pleaded guilty in September of 2014 to first-degree sexual assault while already serving a 25-year sentence in federal prison for transporting the girl out of state for sexual intercourse. Authorities investigated the girl’s pregnancy in 2013 and learned that the previous year, Caracciolo traveled from New York to New Jersey and then bought the girl to the Poconos in Pennsylvania to have sex.
Police later recorded phone calls between Caracciolo and the victim in which Caracciolo admitted to being the father, NJ.com reported. He also was reportedly concerned about text messages between the two being discovered. At the time, the then-48-year-old was wanted in California for failing to register as a sex offender.
Caracciolo was arrested and charged in September 2013 and pleaded guilty in January 2016. He was required to serve at least 17 years in New Jersey state prison before being eligible for parole. He will also be under parole supervision for the rest of his life.
“So he was a child perv in California with a long criminal history. The question is why he was out in the first place? Imprisonment does not change them, so perhaps we should try something more visceral as a means of punishment,” one Daily Mail reader commented in response.
“Why do they not keep these animals locked up and keep them that way instead of letting them out so they can commit the same crimes over again?” one Mad World News reader commented on the site’s Facebook page.
“Maybe his new roommates will help him understand how that poor little girl felt. Nasty pos deserves whatever torture he gets in prison,” another added.
In a similar incident, a Pennsylvania woman was arrested for allowing a known sex offender to assault a child.
Marion Keithline was charged with endangering the welfare of a child, corruption of minors and reckless endangerment.
“It makes me sick. It really makes me sick. There’s nothing else to say,” Overfield Township resident Lisa Haraschak told WNEP of the disturbing case.
Keithline was in a relationship with the sex offender, Eric Popejoy, during the time that the child was abused.
“My thoughts are she got what she deserved. She’s been nothing but a pain in the butt for me. We just had her evicted recently because of not paying her rent and all other kinds of circumstances that have been going on and it’s a blessing that we finally got her out of here,” the woman’s landlord, Darryl Benedict said.
The victim, court documents stated, told Keithline that she was raped by Popejoy, but nothing was done to help her.
The couple used Craigslist to list advertisements for sexual partners, and would host orgies at their home while the child was around.
“Almost every night there was a different vehicle there and half the time she didn’t come home,” Benedict said.
