Driver Gets Fed Up With Protestor Blocking Road (Video)
A shocking video (below) shows a driver in St. Louis, Missouri, getting fed up with protestors who were blocking the street.
Protestors gathered in south St. Louis on June 7 after a 21-year-old man was shot and killed during an exchange of gunfire with SWAT team members earlier that day.
SWAT team members were executing a search warrant for illegal drugs at around 11:30 a.m., and had gained entry into the property when gunshots were fired at the officers, according to KMOV. Officers then fired back and one shot struck and killed the suspect. The suspect was later identified as 21-year-old Isaiah Hammett.
“A bunch of shots were going on. My grandson was trying to protect me on the floor,” said Hammett’s grandfather, Dennis Torres. “He went into the dining room then I hear screaming and I see my grandson lying dead on the dining room floor.”
Friends and family gathered in south St. Louis, near where the incident occurred, and held signs that read, “Justice for Isaiah.” Some members of the group said that they believe Hammett would not have shot at police officers.
“He’s been taking care of his grandfather since he was 16 years old and he threw his grandfather on the floor and when he thought somebody was kicking in the door he didn’t know it was the police,” Hammett’s grandmother, Dawn Atwell, told KMOV. “He went and took his grandfather and put him on the floor to be safe and then goes in there, and next thing you know, he’s dead.”
Later that night, dozens gathered in the area to protest Hammett’s death. Many held up signs seeking for “Justice for Isaiah,” while others formed human barriers in the streets to prevent cars from driving and shouted things like, “F*** the police!”
Things became heated when one protestor in particular blocked a car from making a turn. The woman stood directly in front of the vehicle while the driver honked the horn and slowly attempted to continue driving.
After several minutes of the tense interaction between the protestor and driver, more protestors gathered around the car. The driver had become fed up and took things to the extreme, stepping on the gas and running over the protestor in the process.
Viewers shared their thoughts on the incident on the Mad World News Facebook page.
“These stupid people ask for trouble,” one viewer wrote. “They cause the problem then want to be the victim. DONT block traffic and you won’t be run-over. Didn’t your mother teach you to not play in the traffic??? You can’t fix stupid!”
“I wouldn’t have even stopped!” another user commented. “The protesters see me coming and they better get out of my way, because I’m not gonna stop! The street is for the vehicles, the sidewalks are for pedestrians!”
