A Good Samaritan is recovering after being shot by an illegal immigrant who attempted to kidnap a woman in Colorado.

On the morning of Oct. 2, paramedic Brian Geer and his wife woke up to the sound of a woman desperately banging on their front door for help.

The woman was reportedly trying to escape from her ex-boyfriend, 32-year-old Jesus Garcia-Chavez.

Geer’s surveillance camera caught the incident on film.

The suspect is seen grabbing the young woman, shooting her in the leg and then dragging her into the street.

“I could hear screaming as I was approaching the door and I probably heard a gunshot,” Geer told KDVR. “After I made contact with him, he said, ‘Oh, you want shot too,’ and he pulled the trigger.”

After Garcia-Chavez shot Geer in the leg, the suspect fled.

“She’s screaming for help still, so I ran toward him,” he said. “I’m not sure what I was thinking at this point except that she was in trouble.”

The woman is expected to recover.

It took authorities nearly six days to find Garcia-Chavez. They arrested him after a standoff at a motel on Oct. 7.

He has since been charged with kidnapping, first-degree assault, possession of a weapon by a previous offender and felony menacing, according to KCNC.

“I didn’t realize he was still in town and so close,” Geer said, still recovering from the gunshot wound.

“Lots of happiness,” Geer added in response to Garcia-Chavez’ capture. “We are relieved; we’ll sleep better.”

Garcia-Chavez’ previous criminal history includes assault to a peace officer, assault, possession of a weapon by a previous offender, felony menacing, assault, eluding, resisting arrest, forgery, trespass and possession of a controlled substance.

He was unlawfully living in the U.S. after previously being deported.
