Scarlett Johansson Cut Off Mid-Speech At Women’s March
Scarlett Johansson was left angry after her microphone was cut off mid-speech at the Women’s March on Washington, D.C.
On Jan. 21, more than a half a million people gathered for the Women’s March on Washington, with an estimated 3 million protestors worldwide. Several celebrities showed up to support the cause and give speeches, such as Ashley Judd and Madonna.
Actress Scarlett Johansson also spoke at the protest, but was left fuming after being cut off mid-speech.
According to the Daily Mail, Johansson was asking protestors to support organizations such as Planned Parenthood when suddenly music started playing loudly. She laughed at the sudden interruption, but as she tried to finish her speech, she realized that her microphone had been muted, as well.
Seemingly annoyed, Johansson threw her hands in the air, shrugged, and walked away from the podium.
“What happened?” A friend mouthed to the “Avengers” star.
Johansson was then seen angrily sifting through the index cards on which her speech was written on the side of the stage.
“President Trump, I did not vote for you,” Johansson said before her speech was cut off. “That said, I respect that you are our president-elect and I want to be able to support you. First, I ask that you support me.”
She continued, “Support my daughter, who may actually as a result of the appointments you have made, grow up in a country that is moving backwards, not forwards, and potentially may not.”
During the speech, the actress called for the protestors to not “let the feelings of helplessness make you complacent,” asking those able to “donate to causes.”
Much of Johansson’s speech focused on Planned Parenthood, according to News.com.au.
“For millions of Americans, Planned Parenthood is often the only trustworthy and affordable clinic providing safe education, sex education, safe abortion and life saving services,” she said.
