Clinton Pressures Trump: Release Taxes Not Under Audit

AmericaNow Staff  ·  October 3, 2016

Among Hillary Clinton ‘s usual jabs at Donald Trump at an October 3 campaign event in Akron, Ohio, was a challenge to Trump: release the taxes that you have that are no longer under audit.

“He’s always talking about how he can’t release his taxes because he’s under audit,” Clinton said of Trump at the rally, according to the Hill. “But he admitted everything before 2009 is not under audit. So Donald, release everything up to 2009. Show the American people your taxes.”

Clinton amped up her attacks on her Republican rival’s finances after The New York Times released a report suggesting that Trump may have avoided paying 18 years’ worth of income taxes after claiming a $916 million loss in 1995.

“Think about it — he paid zero, at least for about 20 years we believe, based on what we know, and he’s advocating for huge tax cuts that would help him and his family even more,” Clinton said, calling Trump the “poster-boy for the same rigged system he would make even worse.” “What does he want us to do, pay him to lose money?”

Trump has denounced the Times’ release but has not yet commented on the authenticity of the documents that they produced. He did, however, respond to Clinton’s comments, saying at his own campaign rally on the same day that the former secretary of state “hasn’t made an honest dollar in her entire life,” according to the Times.

“Hillary Clinton left the White House dead broke,” Trump added at the rally in Pueblo, Colorado. “Now she and her husband have made more than $200 million without building a company or creating a single thing of value.”

Clinton fired back, saying that Trump has been “contributing nothing to our nation” over the course of the last 20 or so years.

“He abuses his power, games the system, puts his own interests ahead of the country’s,” Clinton told a crowd at a Toledo, Ohio, rally. “It’s always Trump first, and everyone else last.”
