Twitter Attacks 86-Year-Old For Watching Video (Photo)
When Joe Curci, executive producer of the New York Mets Baseball and the WORd Sports Zone at 710 WOR, shared a photo of his grandfather watching videos on an iPad, he was horrified by the reaction.
Curci posted a photo of his grandfather on Twitter, just two days after he had suffered a heart attack. His grandfather, a veteran and Purple Heart recipient, is pictured in his hospital bed, watching a video of Toni Lahren on his iPad.
The photo was captioned, “My 86-year-old grandfather two days after a heart attack. All he wanted was his iPad so he could watch his @TomiLahren videos.”
Curci thought it wold be funny if Lahren, who hosts “Final Thoughts” on TheBlaze, saw the photo. He was excited when he saw that Lahren had retweeted the photo, but his excitement was short-lived when a number of hateful responses started coming in.
“Brain damage too?? Poor guy,” one user wrote to Curci.
“I was about to say aw but nah,” another user wrote. “Satan was calling your racist expired carton of tapioca pudding grandpappy back to Hell. he should of died.”
Curci received many more hateful comments from users, just because of what his grandfather was watching. One person told Curci, “Hope his heart attacks him again.”
The 86-year-old was labeled a racist by many who responded to Curci.
Curci wrote about the incident for iHeartRadio.
“These are only a few of the hate-fueled messages and comments I’ve received over the past 24 hours. I guess I shouldn’t be surprised. I’ve heard about twitter trolls, but I do find it fascinating that these total strangers, who know nothing about this man could so quickly dismiss him as a human being,” Curci wrote. “This is not a post about politics. It’s about human decency. I’m happy to report that my grandfather is doing much better. Hopefully he can live long enough for people to find some respect once again.”
Curci told the Independent Journal Review, “They’re destroying the character of a guy that they know absolutely nothing about other than he just had a heart attack, he’s 86, and he’s watching a conservative commentator on his iPad.”
When asked to describe his grandfather’s true character, Curci said, “Where do I start without getting emotional?”
Rather than responding to all of the horrific comments individually, Curci sent out a tweet to all of his followers.
“Sad to see people wish my grandfather dead all because he watched a video on Facebook,” he wrote. “Maybe he should give back his Purple Heart too.”
According to the Independent Journal Review, Lahren later responded to the incident, calling the comments “disgusting” and anybody who would go after someone’s grandfather “sick.”
