Footage Of Pro-Trump Chant Goes Viral (Video)

AmericaNow Staff  ·  November 10, 2016

On the morning of November 9, just hours after Hillary Clinton conceded the presidential election to Donald Trump, a group of students in a crowded lunch room in Royal Oak Middle School began chanting in unison, “Build a wall!”

The blunt reference to President Elect Donald Trump’s plan to erect a barrier along the U.S.-Mexico border had immediately polarizing effects throughout the nation.

A bystander caught footage of the incident on camera and the video quickly spread via social media, racking up over 1 million views as of November 10, as documented by WXYZ Detroit.

“I wish there was a way to create space for students and for schools, but we also understand that we live in a hyper-connected world,” says Royal Oak superintendent Shawn Lewis-Lakin.

Lakin reported in a Royal Oaks news release that his school staff are working with the students to impress upon them the gravity that their words have on other students who might be hurt by the sentiment.

Since the video’s circulation on Facebook, parents and students’ families have expressed concern that the strong emotions associated with the election may manifest in a dangerous environment for their kids at Royal Oaks Schools.

Royal Oak Police Department has been stationed at the middle school since the public outcry at the footage of the chant, reports Police Lt. Keith Spencer.

“We are aware of the video and are monitoring comments on it as it gets shared,” Spencer told The Detroit News.

“In responding to this incident – indeed in responding to this election – we need to hear each others stories, not slogans, we need to work towards understanding, not scoring points, and we need to find a way to move forward that respects and values each and every member of our community,” wrote Lakin in a press release.
