Teens See Woman Mouth Two Words, Jump Into Action (Video)
Two teens were driving on a highway in Texas when they saw an attractive-looking girl in another car. As they pulled next to the vehicle to check her out, they noticed something suspicious and immediately knew they needed to call for help. Audio of the call they made to 911 has been released (video below).
According to the Daily Mail, Jamal Harris, 17, was in the passenger seat of 19-year-old Aaron Arias’ car when they spotted a blonde woman in the back seat of another car on the road. As they tried to get a closer look at the woman, the driver turned around to look at them and the woman mouthed two words that revealed exactly what was going on: “Help me.”
“Yes, I’m on the highway. I’m witnessing a robbery. Not a robbery, a kidnapping,” Arias told a 911 dispatcher. “It’s me and another guy. So we’re checking out the girl in the backseat because we’re like, ‘OK, she’s kind of attractive,’ and then all of a sudden the guy is turned back, looking at us. We looked in the backseat and the blonde female in the back was saying, ‘Help me,’ or something, whispering it. So I’m assuming it is a kidnapping.”
The teens followed the car while they remained on the phone with the 911 operator, waiting for police to show up and take over. Just a few minutes later, officers caught up with the kidnapper and pulled the vehicle over, discovering the kidnapped woman in the back seat.
Charles Atkins Lewis, 37, was arrested and charged with aggravated kidnapping after he allegedly took the unidentified 25-year-old woman at gunpoint in downtown Dallas, according to ABC News.
Police reportedly found a gun and a knife inside of Lewis’ vehicle when he was pulled over. He allegedly hit the victim in the head with the gun and forced her into his car, throwing her iPhone out of the window as he drove off.
Lewis was caught nearly 40 miles away from where he is said to have kidnapped the woman.
The victim was taken to a nearby hospital to be examined and was found to be unhurt.
Arias says that he met the victim after she was rescued and that she gave him a big hug for his efforts in stopping Lewis.
“I would describe it as the best hug I have ever gotten,” the 19-year-old said.
He added, “She says we saved her life. I guess you could say we did. But I don’t want to be that person who says they’re a hero.”
