Stranger Looks At Woman’s Shirt, Makes Her An Offer When He Realizes Her Husband’s Away

A woman was left stunned when she was confronted at her local grocery store by a man who pointed out her USMC shirt and then did something shocking.

Casey Carpenter shared her story with Love What Matters, explaining that she was at a Kroger checking out while wearing one of her husband’s USMC sweatshirts. 

“I got in line to check out and the man in front of me asked if the sweatshirt was mine,” she explained. “I said, ‘oh no, it’s my husband’s.’ It caught me pretty off guard, to say the least.”

The man then asked if her husband was with her because he wanted thank him directly. She told him that her husband was unfortunately deployed, and the man proceeded to do something shocking.

“The man then, without hesitation started putting my groceries up on the belt with his and told me he was paying for my groceries tonight. I was speechless. The only thing I could get out was, ‘oh my gosh, are you sure, thank you so much’ almost a dozen times,” Carpenter wrote.

“He said, ‘that place over there almost took me away from my wife and my four kids. Promise you’ll stay true and honest to him while he’s gone and love him like you’ve never loved him before when he gets home.’ I’m still in shock over an hour later.”

Carpenter said that the incident was an example of the fact that there was “still so much good in the world.”

“We need to start focusing on that rather than focusing on all the bad,” she said.

Many readers applauded the man for his selfless gesture.

“This kind of stuff happens all the time …us ppl who help don’t need or care for the recognition. We do it to serve our fellow man and our country. It’s what all Americans should expect of ourselves. What happen to civil duty,” one Mad World News reader commented on the site’s Facebook page.

Others shared their own similar stories of kind gestures from strangers as a thank-you for those who put their lives on the line to protect the country.

“My husband is currently deployed for the third time. We have two daughters and I’m pregnant. Once we were at a restaurant and my husband called to Skype with us. It’s always emotional for our daughters when he calls so I let the waitress know that it would be a few minutes before we were ready and let her know what was going on while my oldest talked to her father,” one Love What Matters reader commented.

“About 10 min after the Skype call had ended, the manager came over and said our meal was taken care of. She said seeing us all huddled around a cellphone brought tears to her eyes. I’ll never forget that.”
