First He Robbed This Couple. Then He Forced Them To Go To An ATM. Then He Raped The Woman. And Then…
An Oklahoma teenager was arrested after he allegedly sexually assaulted an elderly woman and fatally shot a man in front of his children.
Tulsa Police Sgt. Dave Walker said a 16-year-old was involved in several crimes on Oct. 1, the Daily Mail reported.
The teenager is accused of forcing an elderly couple to an ATM to withdraw cash sometime before noon. He then forced them back into their home, where he allegedly sexually assaulted the woman. The teen also stole cash and a handgun from the home, police said.
The teen then allegedly ran to a nearby home, where he stopped a woman and her two daughters as they were preparing to leave from the garage. Police say the teen forced them back into their home, where he encountered and fatally shot the woman’s 44-year-old husband, Shane Anderson.
“The husband fought with [the teen], and [the teen] shot the husband,” Walker said in a news release. “The husband continued to struggle with [the teen] before collapsing inside the house.”
About 12 hours later, the teen allegedly pulled a gun on another couple, and robbed them before fleeing. Patrol officers, who were already in the area searching for the teen, spotted the suspect and arrested him on charges of murder, armed robbery and sexual assault. Walker said there was enough evidence found to connect the teen to the other alleged crimes.
Anderson was a geography teacher at Broken Arrow Public School. School district Superintendent Dr. Janet Dunlop said she was devastated by his death.
“Our hearts are breaking for his family, and we will support them every way possible during this unimaginable time,” Dunlop told Tulsa World.
Walker said the teen was part of a group of youths who “had been very active” in automobile burglaries and thefts in a local shopping mall area.
Tulsa Police Sgt. Shane Tuell added that the teen was arrested in late September, and booked into the Tulsa Jail on a burglary complaint. A Tulsa County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman confirmed the district attorney’s office declined to file charges in that case.
Several police detectives said the teen was a person of interest in multiple robberies.
“For being as young as he is and already being known by the police like that, it’s extremely concerning and very serious,” Tuell said. “His crimes continued to escalate … Calling it a tragedy doesn’t do it justice.”
The teen is currently booked in the Tulsa Jail on charges of murder, robbery and sexual assault, according to Walker.
