Missouri State Senator’s Facebook Post: ‘I Hope Trump Is Assassinated!’

AmericaNow Staff  ·  January 1, 2017

Maria Chappelle-Nadal, a Democratic state senator from Missouri, reportedly posted, then deleted, a comment on Facebook stating, “I hope [Donald] Trump is assassinated!”

“On my personal Facebook, I put up a statement saying, ‘I really hate Trump. He’s causing trauma and nightmares,'” said Chappelle-Nadal, according to The Kansas City Star. “That was my original post. A whole bunch of people responded to that.”

The senator posted her controversial message in response to a comment left on her original Facebook post.

The U.S. Secret Service immediately commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the comment.

Kristina Schmidt, a special agent tasked with running the St. Louis arm of the Secret Service, explained that the Facebook comment is being considered as nothing short of severe:

“So that’s the Secret Service’s job to find out if there was a federal violation committed. The Secret Service has to investigate all of these, whether it’s that someone else should do it, that I will do it, the Secret Service will have to investigate to find out if there is intent there. If there is intent there then we will present the case to the United States attorney’s office and it will be the United States attorney’s office to deem whether or not it’s a violation of law and whether or not they will file chargers.”

Schmidt did not appear to give any weight to the typically casual forum that Chappelle-Nadal used to comment.

“The law is, no matter where you say it, or what venue you say it in …It is against the law,” said Schmidt, according to KMOX.

Stephen Webber, the chairman for the Missouri Democratic Party, was similarly displeased with Sen. Chappelle-Nadal’s comments.

“State Senator Chappelle-Nadal’s comments are indefensible,” said Webber. “All sides need to agree that there is no room for suggestions of political violence in America — and the Missouri Democratic Party will absolutely not tolerate calls for the assassination of the president. I believe she should resign.”

State Sen. Chappelle-Nadal has publicly recanted her words in the aftermath of her Facebook post.

“The way I responded this morning was wrong,” stated Chappelle-Nadal to The Kansas City Star, adding: “I’m frustrated. Did I mean the statement? No. Am I frustrated? Absolutely. The president is causing damage. He’s causing hate.”

The Missouri congresswoman continues to insist she was in the wrong for her post, while simultaneously mounting a verbal attack on President Trump.

“It was wrong for me to post that,” said Chappelle-Nadal. “But I am not going to shy away from the damage this president is causing.”

“When the president apologizes, I’ll apologize,” she told KMOX. “I’m not apologizing for being frustrated and angry at the bigot that we have in our White House.”
