Mother And Son Slapped With Disturbing Note While Eating Out, Responds In Shock
A mother was shocked and upset after she received a nasty note from strangers complaining about her 10-month-old son “ruining” their dinner by being loud.
Katie Leach, of Nampa, Idaho, was enjoying a dinner out with her family when she received a note that instantly changed her mood.
Leach says that her 10-month-old son’s “new thing” is yelling.
“He will yell when I tell him no, when he’s super excited and happy or just for no reason at all,” Leach wrote in a Facebook post. “I’m doing my best to teach him indoor voice and to not yell back at me when telling him no etc. But he is only 10 (almost 11 months) and LEARNING.”
Leach was out to eat with her family at Texas Roadhouse when her son began to yell.
“We all tried quieting him down which a majority of the time he did but he also was so excited to be around all the commotion,” the mother said. “He was not yelling to be mean or because he was mad, it was purely from excitement and being happy.”
Later in the family’s meal, two strangers, described by Leach as “Caucasian women in their late 50s or early 60s,” set a note down on the family’s table before returning to their own table.
“Thank you for ruining our dinner with your screaming kid. Sincerely, the table behind you,” the note said, reports KTVB.
Leach approached the two women after receiving the note and explained to them that her son is young and that he is still learning. She says that the women told her that their grandchildren never behave that way.
The mother then spoke to the manager of Texas Roadhouse, who apologized for the way her family was treated. The manager said the two women who left the note were told that they would be able to finish their dinner, but that they would have to quietly leave immediately afterwards.
The manager reportedly paid for Leach’s meal and told her that her family would be welcome back any time.
Readers shared their mixed feelings on the incident on the Mad World News Facebook page.
“When folks go out to dinner they want to enjoy their meal and have a nice evening,” one reader commented. “We have been out to dinner when someone’s child is yelling, screaming and even running around the tables It is disgusting. People have a right to eat in peace. If you have a child you can’t control in a restaurant, get a take out order, hire a babysitter or eat at home. Others should not have to put up with this type of thing.”
“Oh for heaven sakes get over yourselves,” another user wrote. “He [is] a toddler and parents have a right to go out and enjoy their family for an evening….should they take a child to an upper clads restaurant with a quiet elegant ambiance NO..but Texas Roadhouse is a rowdy noisy family place..if you want a quiet dinner go somewhere else..he is a toddler!!”
