Two parents from Magnolia, Arkansas, were arrested after their baby was found with 100 rodent bites on its body.

Authorities were alerted by a local hospital after after a child was brought there with rodent bites. An ER nurse revealed that the child was 15 days old and weighed around 5 pounds. The bites were severe and covered the baby’s arms, fingers, hands and face. There was also a 1-inch wound on the child’s forehead that showed the skull bone beneath.

The baby’s parents, 19-year-old Erica Shryock and 18-year-old Charles Elliott, were arrested after police spoke with Elliott’s mother, Regina Barton. Barton told authorities that the baby had been bitten by a rodent and that her son was afraid the child would be taken away.

Elliott told police he woke up to the child screaming and crying at 5 a.m. and found blood everywhere. He then reportedly noticed rat footprints all over the baby’s crib.

Shryock told police that she woke up to the baby screaming at 7:30 a.m. after putting the baby to bed at 5:30 a.m. Elliott reportedly knew about the rodent problem in the house and did nothing to fix it.

The parents were charged with endangering the welfare of minor in the first degree.

Many readers called for the parents to be punished to the fullest extent of the law.

“These Scumbags should be put in a cage with there hands bound behind them with about 100 starved rats ,these two are nonhuman and should not be able to ever ever be around children,” one Mad World News reader commented on the site’s Facebook page.

“This makes me sick,” another wrote. “To the point I wanted to throw up. I even had heart palpitations. Why why does God let this happen??? I know it’s not him it’s the devil. Wickedness is what it is. That poor baby. I can see and hear her cries. I just pray God give the doctors knowledge to help this baby. I pray some loving family will take this baby and give her the love she needs. That she won’t get even sicker. Have no lasting damage. Prayers to the angels surround this baby with comfort peace and butterfly kisses.”

“I’m sick of seeing doper parents leaving the hospitals with beautiful newborn babies only to find out they were killed or maimed at home!!!!!!!!!!!” commented another. “These communities know the drug addicted parents!! Why isn’t there a home inspection before the baby can ever live with them???? If they need proof then just look & listen to those that know them best. Surely someone gives a crap.”
