Fox News Poll: Clinton Up 10 Points Over Trump

AmericaNow Staff  ·  August 3, 2016

Hillary Clinton leads Donald Trump by double digits in a recent poll.

Though her poll numbers had been sagging for several weeks, Clinton finally has the edge again in a new Fox News survey that shows her beating Trump by 49 percent to 39 percent.

After the Democratic National Convention, Clinton experienced what is known as a convention bounce, in which the nominee’s poll numbers shoot up a few points after their party’s convention. Trump experienced a similar phenomenon following his party’s convention, but Clinton has now surged to the front with a lead of between five and eight points in the majority of recent polls, according to election statistician Nate Silver of FiveThirtyEight, who predicts that her lead will soon settle to approximately seven points ahead of Trump.

The Fox poll, which included running mates for the first time in this election cycle, found that Clinton, who is running with Sen. Tim Kaine of Virginia, has gained the most support in recent days from whites, Democrats, young voters and seniors. She was most successful among the key demographics who ensured President Barack Obama’s re-election. The so-called “Obama coalition” consists of women, blacks, Hispanics and voters under 30 years of age. Women preferred Clinton by 57 percent to 34 percent, blacks selected her by 87 percent to four percent, Hispanics by 68 to 20 percent and young voters by 49 to 31 percent.

For comparison, Obama won over women in the 2012 election by 55 percent to challenger Mitt Romney’s 44 percent, blacks by 93 percent to six percent, Hispanics by 71 percent to 27 percent and voters under 30 by 60 percent to 37 percent.

Trump, meanwhile, outperforms Clinton when it comes to whites, men, white evangelical Christians, veterans and whites who do not have a college degree.

Though 61 percent of respondents said that they find Clinton to be dishonest, and 62 percent said the same of Trump, a majority considered Clinton to be qualified for the position, with the appropriate temperament and knowledge to be a successful leader.
