Prayer Room At School Sparks Controversy

AmericaNow Staff  ·  March 20, 2017

A Texas high school’s prayer room sparked controversy for reportedly being open exclusively to Muslims and excluding other religions.

Liberty High School’s prayer room raised legal questions and concerns for reportedly not including all religions. In a letter to the Frisco Independent School District, the state’s attorney general’s office called for the school to be neutral toward religion.

“Liberty High School’s policy should be neutral toward religion,” the letter from Deputy Attorney General Andrew Leonie read. “However, it appears that students are being treated different based on their religious beliefs. Such a practice, of course, is irreconcilable with our nation’s enduring commitment to religious liberty.”

Though Leonie applauded the school for being willing to “guarantee the freedom of student-led religious groups” but pointed out that the prayer room was “not available to students of all faiths.”

“Instead, it appears that the prayer room is ‘dedicated to the religious needs of some students,’ namely those who practice Islam,” the letter read.

Many readers criticized the school for its policy towards religious students – calling on them to be more inclusive.

“Get up people of Frisco and stand up for all christians kids. These are your rights your giving up without even a fight shame on you. Eventually your kids will pay the price!” one Mad World News reader commented on the site’s Facebook page.

Others slammed the exclusion of religions like Christianity and spokes out against the focus on Islam.

“Yes, this does make my blood boil. If a “prayer” room is added to a PUBLIC school, it should be used for all religions. This is just one more step in Muslims getting their way as they try to take over America. Slimy liberals just take things too far. This is outrageous,” one reader commented.

“The voluntary subjugation of the west by Muslims is impossible to comprehend. Western society has not only lost the ability to perceive danger, but is inviting it with open arms. If we do not stand up to this our great grandchildren will all be under Sharia Law,” another added.

“Don’t agree what they are doing, but good thing for us Christians, we don’t need a room to pray in. we don’t have to pray at a certain time, we can pray anywhere… yes even the schools can’t stop that, because we can be praying in our heads and know God hears, we can be praying while talking to someone. we are not limited to when and how we talk to God. we don’t have to even say a long prayer. grant it that in doing this they are breaking the church and state thing like so many claims Christians do. there is clearly a double standard and that is not a good thing,” another wrote.
