Trump: Historically Corrupt Clinton Foundation Should Be Shut Down

AmericaNow Staff  ·  August 22, 2016

Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump is targeting a new angle in his attacks against Democratic rival Hillary Clinton. Trump issued a statement on Aug. 22 calling for the Clinton Foundation to shut down.

The statement was published to Trump’s Facebook page:

Hillary Clinton is the defender of the corrupt and rigged status quo. The Clintons have spent decades as insiders lining their own pockets and taking care of donors instead of the American people. It is now clear that the Clinton Foundation is the most corrupt enterprise in political history. What they were doing during Crooked Hillary’s time as Secretary of State was wrong then, and it is wrong now. It must be shut down immediately.

According to USA Today, Trump called into Fox News’ “Fox & Friends” to elaborate following his Facebook statement.

“Well, number one, they should shut it down, and number two, they should give the money back to a lot of countries we shouldn’t be taking — and they shouldn’t be taking money from,” Trump began. “Countries that influenced her totally and also countries that discriminated against women and gays and everybody else. I mean, that money should be given back. They should not take that money.”

“Look, these are very greedy people,” Trump added. “These are people that have skirted the law for a long time. Hard to believe that … somebody like this has a good chance … a fairly good chance of being president.”

John Podesta, campaign chairman for Clinton, released a statement not long after Trump’s Facebook post, firing right back at his claims.

The [Clinton] Foundation has already laid out the unprecedented steps the charity will take if Hillary Clinton becomes president. Donald Trump should stop hiding behind fake excuses and release his tax returns and immediately disclose the full extent of his business interests. He must commit to fully divesting himself from all of his business conflicts to ensure that he is not letting his own financial interests affect decisions made by his potential administration.
