Woman Catches Strange Black Man In Yard, Couldn’t Believe What He Did
A man in Huntsville, Alabama, garnered praise after he took it upon himself to mow lawns for single mothers and elderly people.
Rodney Smith Jr. was surprised by a news team from WHNT when the crew arrived to a home he was working at with a check for $319. Smith had been cutting lawns in the area for free when word got out about his good deed.
“Is this April Fool’s?” he asked the reporter. Smith soon realized the whole thing was set up by Dawn Reynolds, whose lawn he had mowed for free. She was so moved by the gesture that she got in touch with the station to let people in the area know what he was doing.
“I am just really impressed at what he’s doing,” Reynolds said. “He’s a young man doing wonderful things and I think that’s missing in the world today.”
Reynolds expressed gratitude for all that Smith did for her.
“I’m just not able to really do it physically, nor do I have the financial means to pay somebody, so this is huge for me,” she said.
Smith said he mows lawns between his college classes. He is as an international student at Alabama A&M University.
“This will make 81,” the Bermuda native said of his mission to get to 100 lawns. “Right now, I’m cutting grass. At 3 p.m., I have to be in class. On the weekend, I just cut because I have no classes.”
Smith said his good deed was something that was ultimately worthwhile for him.
“It’s the Bermudian way of giving back,” he said. “We always like to give back to people.”
Many readers praised the young man for his good deeds.
“His goal just wasn’t impressive it’s heart felt,” one Mad World News reader commented on the site’s Facebook page. “Obviously he gave it some thought and to have done this for single women and the elderly says he his heart is open and full of love for people. GOD BLESS YOU FOR THE SIMPLE BUT HUGE KINDNESS YOU CARRIED OUT.”
“This is much of what our world is missing,” another wrote. “It’s so good to know there are great people in our society that do good things for others. May God bless Rodney Smith Jr.”
“This young man needs to receive an award and start teaching our younger children to do good things for others without getting something out of it!!” commented another. “Thank you young man and God will reward you richly.”
