Polls: Majority Disapprove Of, Embarrassed By Trump

Two national polls report that President Trump is still seen in a negative light overall, in terms of voters’ opinion of his performance as Commander-In-Chief.

Over 50 percent of voters are of the opinion that at least one of Trump’s actions as president have been either illegal or unethical, according to McClatchy-Marist conducted February 15 through February 19.

These actions are up to and including his potential conflict of interest with his still-active business interests in foreign countries.

“He is generating benefit to his enterprise,” said Matt Boyer, a think tank researcher from Chapel Hill, North Carolina. “The rest of the executive branch can’t participate in this behavior.”

Approximately 60 percent of individuals polled say that Trump’s actions as president elicit embarrassment, rather than pride.

McClatchy-Marist sampled a split of 81 percent registered voters, with the remainder unregistered American citizens. Of those 81 percent, 34 percent were registered Democrats, 25 percent were registered Republicans, and 40 percent were registered independents.

Of the whole of people sampled, 41 percent of individuals believe Trump is doing a satisfactory job as president.

Another poll by Quinnipac University carries the same basic theme about Trump’s character, at least in the eyes of voters.

According to Quinnipac numbers, a majority 55 percent of voters believe the president is dishonest. A majority share of poll subjects still believe Trump falls short in other areas of leadership, level-headedness, and values.

“President Donald Trump’s popularity is sinking like a rock,” said Tim Malloy, and assistant director with Quinnipac.

“He gets slammed on honesty, empathy, level-headedness, and the ability to unite. And two of his strong points, leadership and intelligence, are sinking to new lows.”

The poll also documented majority opposition on each category of four concerning Trump’s immigration ban.

59 percent of individuals polled support judicial action against Trump’s immigration ban.

The Quinnipac Poll sampled individuals during a period from February 16-February 21.
