Elderly Houston Victims Call Chick-Fil-A, Can’t Believe What They Find On Their Doorstep

An elderly Houston couple was rescued from their flooding home by men with Jet Skis after calling their local Chick-fil-A restaurant for help.

Karen and J.C. Spencer initially rode out the first few days of Hurricane Harvey without issue, but soon decided they needed help when their house started filling with water. J.C. called the local Chick-Fil-A restaurant, where he and his wife are regular customers, and the manager sent a boat to pick them up.

“We had to get out of there so I called Chick-fil-A, now that sounds kind of funny,” he told ABC News. “I ordered two grilled chicken burritos with extra egg and a boat. And can you believe that one of the managers of Chick-fil-A, she sent her husband to pick us up and we are so grateful.”

The couple quickly realized they couldn’t fit all of their belongings in the rescue boat, but before they could decide what to take with them, they were met by the pair of Jet Ski riders.

“Karen jumped on the back of a Jet Ski and I jumped on the back of another one and they evacuated us to higher ground,” J.C. said.

Karen was completely shocked by the Jet Ski rescue she received.

“I can’t believe I’m leaving my flooded house in a Jet Ski,” she told ABC News.

The couple was later reunited with their rescuers when they returned to their home.

“Thank you,” J.C. told Winston Savice Jr., one of the men who saved him. “You’re a hero.”

“No problem, someone had to do it,” he replied. “I’m glad to see you guys are safe.”

Chick-fil-A in Northport, Alabama, teamed up with the American Red Cross and a local Baptist church to collect items for those in need — launching a project called T-Town for Texas. The group will truck the donated items to the Houston area in early October.

“Cleaning supplies, toiletries, gift cards like Visa and gas cards. Diapers and nonperishable foods. We plan on doing this on a four-week drive,” organizer Jamie Dykes told WIAT of what the organization needed.

Many readers praised Chick-fil-A and the men who saved the elderly couple for going above and beyond to help.

“What a blessing!” one Mad World News reader commented on the site’s Facebook page. “There’s no Chick-fil-A in Oregon or at least not in Eugene Oregon! You guys are awesome and thank you so much for helping this beautiful couple! These days you never know who is going to rescue you but the great man up stairs is watching over us. Thank you so much for helping them.”

“What a great story,” wrote another. “Why don’t we show our support for their good deed by eating at a Chick-Fil-A restaurant.”

“God bless you Chick-fil-A,” commented another reader. “Keep up the good work.”
