Good Samaritans Help Save Woman In Deadly Attack (Photos)
A Good Samaritan helped saved the life of a woman and her baby who were attacked in the parking lot of a Walmart store in Shawnee, Kansas, but not before the situation turned deadly.
The incident started when two suspects allegedly confronted the woman in the parking lot while she was putting her baby in a car seat. Witnesses said one of the suspects hit the woman in the head.
A passerby came to the woman’s aide, but was reportedly shot several times by one of the suspects.
Another passerby then reportedly took out a gun and shot one of the suspects. That suspect died at the scene, and the other suspect fled.
The mother was taken to the hospital in critical condition, but ultimately recovered. The baby was unharmed. The bystander who was shot was also taken to the hospital in critical condition.
Janet Lewis, a local mother, said her son was arrested in connection to the crime, even though she says he was home at the time and not involved.
“As I come pulling up, I see them arresting my son,” she told WDAF. “I didn’t make it to park the car because as I seen my son, and the police around my only child, I sped up. He was a little pissed off. I’m going to put it out there. He was pissed off.”
Police later arrested 27-year-old Fred Wyatt III and charged him with attempted first-degree murder, attempted aggravated kidnapping and attempted aggravated robbery.
Wyatt was reportedly one of the suspects, and fled the scene following the incident. He previously served time in prison for involuntary manslaughter, according to WDAF.
Social media users commented on the incident.
“Countless stories like this one need to be told,” one Mad World News reader commented on the site’s Facebook page. “We are witnessing more aggressive illegal behavior conducted by thugs who think they can get away with anything. Since law enforcement cannot be everywhere at any given time, thank God for CCW carriers for today it is up to citizens to defend the helpless by doing away with these lawbreakers.”
“We are beginning to see more of this good samaritan activity lately which is as it should be,” another wrote. “If these animals are going to be let loose in our society we certainly need more voluntary animal trainers out amongst ’em. Also, I seem to be seeing more of the victims fighting back. Also a good sign.”
“Everyone should arm themselves, get well qualified and proficient with that weapon and have it readily available where ever you are,” wrote another commenter. “Get your mindset to the point that if it’s a case of your life or theirs, it’s going to be theirs!!”
