Parents Arrested After Baby Girl Found Dead In Crib (Photo)
Police arrested Tennessee parents in connection with the death of their 10-month-old daughter.
A Perry County judge arraigned Laura Mosher and Marc Mosher Jr. on June 12 on charges of murder and child abuse, according to WSMV.
“It’s a very sad and unfortunate case,” Perry County Sheriff Nick Weems said, WZTV reports. “I hate dealing with it. It’s one of the saddest things I believe I’ve ever seen.”
Weems was called to the family’s home after other officers with the department responded to the baby’s death on Jan. 12.
“I arrived on the scene, did a walk through, and there were some things that just didn’t add up,” the sheriff told WZTV.
A police report says the 10-month-old baby girl was found dead inside of a room, in which the temperature was more than 80 degrees. The baby was dressed in a fleece onesie, with socks underneath, laying in a crib. Police say her body temperature was just 89 degrees.
Laura Mosher reportedly told police her baby seemed fine when she laid her down in her crib. She said she called 911 several hours after putting her to sleep.
“It just appeared that the child had been there for longer than what was being told to us,” Weems said, WSMV reports.
Officials say the baby girl starved to death and that she was dehydrated.
Police arrested the parents and charged them with aggravated child abuse. The mother is also charged with murder.
“It just really strikes with people,” Weems said, according to WZTV. “People can be forgiven for a lot of things. They can be sympathized with for a lot of crimes, but whenever you’re involving a child like that, it makes it very difficult.”
Members of the community argue that there is more to the story than the parents are saying.
Rosella Foret, who worked with Marc Mosher at a grocery store said: “I heard the baby got starved to death. They were starving the baby, and in fact the night before I saw him come into the grocery store. I was closing.”
The case is still under investigation and the parents remain in the Perry County Jail without bond.
