A teenage Pakistani girl was found dead in a well at her home after she was kidnapped by members of her own family and sold into sex slavery.

According to The Express Tribune, a 17-year-old girl identified as Kainaat was found dead after being fatally shot by her brother, Qaisar Khan. Her brother subsequently dumped her body in a well at their family’s home near Peshawar, Pakistan.

A Mattani police officer described the gruesome scene to the The Express Tribune: “The body is extremely decomposed as several days have passed since the murder. A Rescue 1122 team fished it out of the well after a lot of effort.”

A resident of the area explained that Kainaat had gone missing when she was 12 years old. According to Mad World News, the girl was kidnapped by her own relatives, who then sold her into sex slavery. She was allegedly forced into prostitution in Lahore.

During the five years that the teen was missing, her father never gave up looking for her. Eventually, he was able to track her down, but when police brought her back home to her village to be reunited with her family, things took a tragic turn.

The teen reportedly got into a heated argument with her brother, who then shot and killed her for “honor” because so many men had sexually abused her. Qaisar Khan reportedly accusing his sister of having “illicit relationships with some men.”

According to The Express Tribune, prior to being killed by her brother, Kainaat had identified the relatives she says sold her into sex slavery, but police did not arrest any of the accused.

The story comes following another such murder in Peshawar, in which 14 men were arrested for killing a teenage girl who helped one of her friends elope. The teen was reportedly burned to death.

The police chief in Abbottabad, Saeed Wazir, says that the girl’s murder was a “pre-planned act” that involved 14 village leaders. He said that the village council sanctioned the killing to send a message to other young people in the village.

“They said she must be burnt alive to make a lesson for other girls,” Wazir said.

The girl was killed because she defied a strict Islamic custom by helping one of her friends secretly marry her boyfriend. Wazir said that the bride “didn’t obey her father’s will and did a love marriage at court with a guy.”
