A Texas woman says that a cashier at her local Kroger grocery store refused to ring her up because she was wearing a shirt that read “Police Lives Matter.”

A woman identified only as Meredith told KTRK that she was at her local Kroger in Spring, Texas, when a teenaged cashier denied her service because of the shirt she was wearing.

“She made me feel ashamed to have the shirt on and I don’t appreciate that,” Meredith said.

According to Meredith, the cashier walked away from her register after refusing to ring her up and went to talk to a coworker. Meredith overheard the conversation.

“She was stating that the shirt I had on was basically a slap in the face to her and she was doing everything she could not to cry,” Meredith said, according to Newsiosity.

Meredith says that her husband is a police officer and that she did not intend to offend anybody by wearing the shirt.

She says she has complained to the store about the incident several times, but that she has yet to receive a response.

Meredith says she does not want the cashier who denied her service to be fired, but that she wants everybody to be able to freely express themselves.

“It’s important that people in the service industry know that no matter what, if someone walked in with a Black Lives Matter shirt on they needed to still be serviced,” Meredith said.
