Woman Has Surgery To Remove Ovaries, Gets Huge Surprise (Photos)

A New Zealand woman was shocked when she went to get her ovaries removed and learned that she was pregnant.

Rebecca Oldham began experiencing severe abdominal pain and underwent three scans, two blood tests, and six pregnancy tests to figure out what was wrong. When she was finally admitted to the hospital to have her ovaries removed, doctors discovered a baby inside of her when performing surgery.

Oldham told the New Zealand Herald that she thought she wouldn’t be able to have any more children because of her ovary problems, the New York Daily News reported.

“All of a sudden, we had a son,” she said.

A C-section was performed after doctors woke her up to tell her she was expecting.

“It was better than waking up and being handed a baby,” she said.

The stomach pains, doctors said, were ultimately due to her baby being pushed against her back.

“Even with the Caesarean they had to use forceps to get him out,” she said. “They think the pain was caused by him trying to move around, but he couldn’t.”

The woman, who already had a daughter with her partner, James, said that once the new baby had arrived, people confronted her about not being aware she was pregnant in the first place.

“People say, ‘How could you not know?’ But I really didn’t,” she said. “I can’t explain why, but it was scary not knowing.”

Many readers recalled their own similar situations after the story went viral.

“My niece had gall bladder surgery they didn’t see the baby she was 6 months [pregnant] didn’t know it until 3 months later when she had a seizure [and] went to hospital and drs. delivered her a baby girl by [C-section] and told her she had a baby girl when she woke up. So yes it is possible. The reason she didn’t know was because she was dieting so had no weight,” one MommyPage reader commented on the site’s Facebook page.

“My stepbrothers wife did not find out she was pregnant until she was 7 1/2 months pregnant. She had no signs of pregnancy and only found out when she went for her yearly pap… needless to say she was shocked. She had gained no weight and didn’t look pregnant or anything,” another wrote.

“Found out when I was 6 months pregnant.. No symptoms, no changes… Dr said he was tucked up under my ribs..I was very thin and he literally had no where to move…after dr did urine test and it was positive, I told him I hadn’t had intercourse in 6 months…was sent immediately for an ultrasound,” another added.
