Mom Upset After Teacher Grabs Son’s Mic In School Play (Video)
A boy with autism who participated in a school play was left in tears when his teacher snatched the microphone from him just as he was trying to speak (video below).
West Virginia mother Amanda Riddle said she was looking forward to her 6-year-old son, Caleb, in his Thanksgiving play at school. Caleb was excited to be part of the play, but when he got to the mic, his teacher did something shocking.
“She went up and she snatched that microphone from him,” Riddle said, Little Things reported. Caleb then began crying in front of his class and his mother. All he wanted to say was “gobble, gobble.”
“What would it have hurt to give him a few extra seconds to say ‘gobble, gobble?’” Riddle wondered. “He was up there crying, saying ‘oh no!’ and my heart broke to watch that.”
The superintendent of the school later defended the teacher’s actions, explaining she took the mic because the performance was over.
“The program was over and the teacher had taken the microphone without malice. If we had to do it again, probably we all agree that we would have done it a little differently,” he said.
The story quickly went viral, with many expressing their outrage at the teacher’s actions.
“If the play was over why was he waiting in line [behind] the other 2 boys who got to thank everyone for coming and she clearly saw him waiting and walking up when she grabbed that mic no excuses that child was humiliated in front on everyone shame on that teacher and school for trying to cover her actions,” one reader commented on Shared’s Facebook page.
“It’s a big deal to a child. That teacher is a awful excuse for teachers, inconsiderate, rude, she needs to have a lot of time out, maybe permanent,” another added.
