Trump Campaign Blames Clinton, Liberals For Dallas Shooting

AmericaNow Staff  ·  July 8, 2016

In the midst of a Black Lives Matter protest in Dallas, Texas, on July 8, a sniper opened fire on police officers killing 5 and injuring several more. Corey Stewart, a Republican gubernatorial candidate in Virginia and chairman of Trump’s election campaign for the state, believes the shooting is Hillary Clinton’s fault.

“Liberal politicians who label police as racists – specifically Hillary Clinton and Virginia Lt. Governor Ralph Northam – are to blame for essentially encouraging the murder of these police officers tonight,” Stewart posted on his Facebook page the evening of July 7.

“He does not speak for the campaign and we do not agree,” Hope Hicks, spokeswoman for the Trump campaign, told the Daily News in an email. Mr. Trump released his own statement instead.

Trump’s statement reads:

Our nation has become too divided. Too many Americans feel like they’ve lost hope. Crime is harming too many citizens. Racial tensions have gotten worse, not better. This isn’t the American Dream we all want for our children. This is a time, perhaps more than ever, for strong leadership, love and compassion. We will pull through these tragedies.

However, Trump took to his Twitter page later in the day to tweet “Isn’t it sad that on a day of national tragedy Hillary Clinton is answering softball questions about her email lies on @CNN?”

Beyond Trump and Stewart, Republican Rep. Roger Williams of Texas, released his own statement on the Dallas shooting.

“The spread of misinformation and constant instigation by prominent leaders, including our president, have contributed to the modern day hostility we are witnessing between the police and those they serve,” Williams’ statement reads, the Daily News reports. “As a result, today we are seeing one of the noblest professions condemned by those who could benefit the most.”
