Bill O’Reilly Vouches For ‘Precise’ New Gun Control Laws
The movement for gun control in America has a surprising new ally: Bill O’Reilly.
The Fox News anchor called for new measures of gun control during the broadcast of his show on June 14.
“There is too much gun crime in the USA, and high-powered weaponry is too easy to get,” O’Reilly said on his show, reports Business Insider. “That’s the fact. So let’s deal with it. We all have the right to bear arms, but we don’t have the right to buy and maintain mortars. Even if you feel threatened by gangsters or a New World Order. No bazookas, no Sherman tanks, no hand grenades.”
“That’s because the Second Amendment clearly states the government has a right to regulate militias, made up of individuals,” O’Reilly continued. “They have that right in the name of public safety. Therefore, Congress should debate what kind of weapons should be available for public sale. And the states, the individual states, should decide what kind of carry laws are good for their own people.”
“The FBI and other federal agencies need the power to stop suspected terrorists or other evildoers from buying weapons,” O’Reilly added. “That law needs to be very precise.”
On June 13, O’Reilly appeared on “The Late Show with Steven Colbert” where they discussed the political response to the Orlando massacre, which killed 49 people on June 12.
“Guns are a problem in the hands of criminals and terrorists, but they afford the population a level of self-protection, which is why the founders put it into the Constitution,” O’Reilly said via Esquire.
“…The reason that we beat these British oppressors is because everybody had a gun,” O’Reilly continued. “Everybody. And all these Redcoats were running around, and, bang! That’s what self-protection brings.”
“Punish the people who abuse the guns,” O’Reilly concluded. “Punish them!”
