A Pennsylvania woman was more than concerned when she heard a loud thump come from her attic. She went to investigate and was shocked by what she saw.
Zanobia Richmond, 66, called police when she found a body in her attic.
Richmond’s grandson, 21-year-old Dyquain Rogers, reportedly disappeared in November 2014. According to the Erie Times-News, it was Rogers’ body that Richmond found in her attic.
“I have to accept it now because that is what they say,” Rogers’ aunt, Erica Jeffries-Jordan, told the Erie Times-News after hearing about the discovery of her nephew’s body. “I really don’t want to accept it.”
On Dec. 1, police, along with the coroner and Jeffries-Jordan, determined that Rogers’ cause of death was suicide.
Rogers’ body was dressed in different clothing from what Richmond says he was wearing when she last saw him on Nov.1, 2014. Police believe that the 21-year-old may have left the house and returned before taking his own life in the house’s attic.
During the initial investigation after Rogers went missing, police searched the inside and outside of Richmond’s home, where Rogers also lived. However, police reports do not indicate whether or not officers searched the attic.
“All indications are that (Rogers) wasn’t there when our guys were there,” Erie Police Chief Donald Dacus said in a statement. “He returned at some point wearing different clothing.”
Dachas added, “The difficult part is we will never have the answers.” He also said that he agrees that the death appears to be a suicide.
According to the New York Daily News, the coroner said: “There was no evidence of murder or foul play.”
