A bride who went crazy baffled doctors, until they finally discovered what was happening to her – she had larvae in her scalp (video below).

In a clip showing the terrifying ordeal, Dr. Edward Panacek explains that the patient – a bride on her wedding day – came to the ER feeling like something was crawling in her head. Her parents believe that she’s just trying to avoid getting married, but Panacek soon realizes just what’s wrong.

He approaches the bride and tells her to remain calm, then inserts a syringe in the back of her neck. He pulls out a botfly larvae from her head, which he explains had been growing inside a lesion in her scalp – most likely a mosquito bite.

The Botfly larvae, he said, was most likely something the bride obtained from her bachelorette getaway in Costa Rica, as the kind of larvae he extracted was not common in the United States.

The terrifying story quickly went viral, with many expressing their horror by what happened to the bride.

“Well that was gross! Poor girl!” one Newsiosity reader commented on the site’s Facebook page.

“Yeah, there was a professional football player that had some in his scalp….he could hear them moving around and he could hardly wear his helmet his head was so tender it was awhile before he finally got a doctor to listen to him. He said at night he could hear them, in his head, moving around,” another added.

“Cats get them a lot. My daughter made me dig one out of her “baby”. I’m not squeemish, but it almost made me sick! Got it out, and didn’t hurt the cat,” another reader commented.

In a similar story, a mother discovered botfly larvae in her son’s scalp after a trip to Costa Rica.

Jennifer Rindone told KTLA that she noticed something peeking out of her son’s head one day after they returned from their trip.

“I got some forceps. I pulled out a little piece. I said ‘hmm, that’s interesting,'” Dr. Calvin Lowe, who removed the larvae, said of the extraction.

Rindone’s son, Andrew, said he didn’t suffer any side effects from the the larvae, and even kept it as a souvenir for himself.

“I’m making up a superhero. I’m making up the powers. I’m having a great time with the botfly out of my head,” he said.

Despite their horrific ordeal, the family told KTLA that they would still recommend Costa Rica to anyone wanting a vacation.
