A cashier at an Indiana grocery store was applauded after a Facebook post about her generous act of kindness toward a customer went viral.

Gary Clark took to Facebook to share what he witnessed in the store.

“This girl is a cashier at Marsh on Kentucky Ave, her name is Janell. A elderly woman came through her line, did not have enough money,” Clark’s post read alongside a photo of the cashier.

“This young lady took money out of her own pocket and paid half of her bill. Please share and let everyone know our youth is not a lost cause. I was proud to [have] witnessed it, Marsh should be proud to have her as an employee.”

The post quickly went viral, garnering 29,000 shares on Facebook.

Many readers praised the cashier for her generous actions.

“God has blessed me so many times that I have been able to bless several people I know. I just learned that I got extra food stamps so I plan to share with a family that doesn’t get SNAP. I know that God will reward me so I never ask or expect them to return the favor. God will bless this young lady for her generosity,” one Mad World News reader commented on the site’s Facebook page.

“This is a great example of paying it forward. God Bless her. Someone … gave me money toward a trip, put under my station at the Salon. Never did find out who gave it to me foe sure. But made my trip a lot better. There are good people who give kindness and generosity to others,” another wrote.

“I too am a cashier, and see this happen quite a bit… People in line have helped pay for the person in front of them… I have given change but don’t carry much cash… Several customers have [paid] over $20.00… It always brings tears to my eyes,” another added.

Some shared similar stories of kindness throughout the country.

“This story I’m sure happens all over, there are a lot of good people thank God … once when in line I had $38.00 in food I couldn’t find my debit card and an older man offered to pay it and I’m an old woman not a cutie, he was just a nice man….. About that time I found d my Visa cards I paid it but this man was so sweet, made me feel awesome ,God bless him,” one reader commented.

“What a nice cashier. I have been in the older ladies place and I know the shame … I felt. The clerk was kind taking things off that I did not have the money for. Clerks are hard working people who see and hear it all. They smile and ask how are you? I know I do not have the patience to do what they do,” another added.
