China Is Bleaching Garlic – Here’s What You Should Know
Recent reports revealed that China is allegedly bleaching garlic during the manufacturing process – making it more important than ever to know what to look out for when purchasing produce.
A report from the Epoch Times detailed the process behind the manufacturing of garlic and the pesticides that are used to make it consumer-ready.
“An undercover magazine reporter investigating in the area found that many vegetable farmers used phorate and parathion, two pesticides banned by the government, to irrigate the crops to save time and effort,” the report stated, AWM America reported.
“An official government report in 2014 showed that nearly a fifth of China’s soil is contaminated by heavy metals like cadmium and arsenic as well as unhealthy amounts of pesticides and fertilizers. Severe pollution has tainted all of China’s major rivers with large amounts of industrial chemicals and household waste.”
The best way to tell if your garlic is contaminated with pesticides is to taste it. If it taste like it doesn’t have the pungent garlic flavor you’re used to, it’s best to get rid of it.
“This is so simple just don’t buy any food or anything else from China and eventually they will get the picture. I wonder if they serve poison to their own people or just ship it to other countries?” one AWM America reader commented in response to the story on the site’s Facebook page.
“I try to not buy anything from China. Its getting harder and harder to find just normal everyday things like child and dog toys, human and dog foods, human and dog bedding. Name it and it’s made in China. Hurry President Trump and get this changed!” another wrote.
“When buying any foods the packages usually tell you the country it came from. Now China can take a whole chicken and cut it up using what ever they have handy and send it to the USA and since it is packaged here you need to know where the products were handled as well,” another added.
Some readers questioned other foods that are imported from China.
“China also pumps SILICON into 3 sections of shrimp to make them bigger. Long hoses with needles and women with mounting of shrimp on the floor in front of them sit there and toss the shrimp afterward into a big vat,” one reader commented.
“China just bought the majority of the meat packing companies in the US and are planning on moving all slaughtering and packaging to China so they can get away from the rules and regulations that American packers have to abide by for our safety!” another added.
