Police Officer Takes Forever To Exit His Patrol Car, Couple Quickly Realizes Why

A Louisiana police officer went above and beyond the call of duty when he decided to pray with a couple he pulled over for speeding, rather than give them a ticket.

Maxine Morgan told KSLA she “wasn’t really paying attention” to how fast she was going when she was pulled over while driving through Bossier Parish, Louisiana, on the way to Shreveport.

“I was parked at Taylor’s Grocery looking for speeders heading west,” Deputy Jackie Loveless said. “When they came by, they were speeding.”

Loveless called in the car’s license plate and said a prayer to himself before getting out of the car and approaching the couple, once he pulled them over.

“He was very nice,” Morgan said of the officer. She said her mind wasn’t in the right place when she was pulled over, as she was on her way to a memorial for her daughter, who died three days earlier.

“It’s hard, very hard,” she said. “It’s the hardest thing in the world to have to give up one of your kids.”

Morgan said she told Loveless where she and her husband were going, and he quickly asked if he could pray with them. They agreed.

“When the spirit of the Lord comes up to me to pray, I’m obedient to him and pray with that person,” Loveless said.

“It just touched me so much,” Morgan said. “He took the time to pray with us.”

Loveless said the prayer was as special for him as it was for the grieving parents.

“In the middle of prayer, she grabbed my hand and held my hand real tight. And tears started coming from her, tears of greatness and tears of appreciation,” he said.

Bossier Parish Sheriff Julian Whittington praised Loveless and said his kind gesture was appreciated.

“Jackie understands we deal with a lot of people, but in a lot of times in the most stressful, critical event they’ve ever had to deal with in their lives,” Whittington said. “He exemplifies, first off, a man, a Christian man.”

Morgan said that although that particular day was perhaps the most difficult and heartbreaking in her life, she also remembered it for the special moment she and her husband shared with the officer.

“We needed something that day and he gave it to us,” she said.

Many praised Loveless for his actions.

“HELL YES !!” one Mad World News reader commented on the site’s Facebook page. “Another Good Cop doing his job and at this instance he shows COMPASSION for the people he pulled over !! I’m not real religious, but I think this cop is some sort of a hero, especially this couple going to their daughters funeral.”

“Now that’s showing compassion for others in their moments of grief,” commented another. “God Bless this officer.”

“God bless this officer,” another added.
