Police Stop Woman Driving Away From Mexico Border, Shocked By $2 Million Find In Trunk
A Texas woman has been arrested after police found $2 million worth of liquid crystal meth in her car.
Officers made the arrest on July 12 at around 11:20 p.m. after they pulled over 22-year-old Seline Ayala for driving 5 mph above the 60 mph limit on a local freeway, the Austin Statesman reported.
Ayala was reportedly traveling to Dallas with her 4-year-old daughter and the girl’s baby sitter, according to the arrest affidavit. When police questioned her about why she was traveling to Dallas, Ayala became “verbally aggressive,” KTLA 5 reported. Police then became suspicious.
At first, Ayala told authorities she was traveling to Dallas to meet up with a doctor she worked with for a meeting. She could not however, provide the location of the meeting, nor could she provide the name of the doctor who employed her, according to court documents.
The suspect also refused to allow officers to search her vehicle. That’s when police brought in a narcotics unit dog for an “open air sniff,” Fox News reported. The K-9 indicated that drugs were in Ayala’s car, according to police.
Authorities found three large white jugs, which were labeled “Purple Power,” inside the trunk and interior of Ayala’s car. They contained 75 pounds – which equals to 34,000 grams, of liquid methamphetamine, and had an estimated street value of $2 million.
The other female passenger in Ayala’s vehicle, believed to be the suspect’s daughter’s babysitter, told police Ayala picked her up from a San Antonio residence just a few hours earlier. She was supposed to babysit the 4-year-old girl, who was present in the vehicle at the time of the arrest.
Ayala told authorities she was taking the drugs to Dallas on behalf of an unidentified man in Laredo, according to the arrest affidavit. During a mirandized interview, she told police this was her second arranged methamphetamine delivery, and that both were coordinated by the same individual.
Investigators said Ayala’s statements were corroborated by text conversations they found on her cellphone after the arrest.
Ayala is now facing federal drug trafficking charges and is currently being held without bond. She will appear in court for a preliminary detention hearing on July 21, according to U.S. District Court.
According to Fox News, Ayala was charged with conspiracy to possess with intent to deliver controlled a substance. If convicted, she could spend up to 20 years behind bars.
