‘Delete Your Account’: Clinton’s Twitter Response To Trump Goes Viral
Hillary Clinton hit back hard at Donald Trump after he weighed in on her recent endorsement from President Barack Obama.
Following the endorsement, which the president announced via a video posted to Twitter on June 9, presumptive Republican nominee Donald Trump responded, as he often does, by posting something on Twitter.
“Obama just endorsed Crooked Hillary,” Trump tweeted on June 9. “He wants four more years of Obama—but nobody else does!”
Clinton’s account team responded within five minutes.
“Delete your account,” the tweet simply said.
Tweeting “Delete your account” to someone is a well-known joke on Twitter, particularly among media and political circles, notes Vox. The expression is usually used in a lighthearted manner after someone posts a failed cringe-worthy attack.
Two hours later, Trump fired back, asking “How long did it take your staff of 823 people to think that up–and where are your 33,000 emails that you deleted?”
The billionaire businessman’s response echoed that of Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Preibus, who tweeted to Clinton earlier, “If anyone knows how to use a delete key, it’s you,” in reference to her email scandal.
After months of declining to comment on the Democratic primary, Obama released a video in which he praised Clinton, saying that there has never been someone “so qualified” to become president as her, according to CNN.
“I want those of you who have been with me since the beginning of this incredible journey to be the first to know that I’m with her,” Obama said. “I am fired up. And I can’t wait to get out there and campaign with Hillary.”
The Democratic front runner expressed her thanks in a tweet, referencing the common “I’m With Her” campaign slogan that she and her followers use.
“Honored to have you with me, @POTUS,” she wrote on Twitter. “I’m fired up and ready to go!”
She signed it with an “-H” to indicate that she wrote the tweet herself.
