Former Labor Secretary: 5 Reasons To Impeach Trump

Former Labor Secretary Robert Reich has weighed in about Donald Trump’s viability as president, and in doing so has isolated five reasons why the current Commander-In-Chief could potentially stand to be impeached.

Among these reasons, Reich noted via Twitter that Trump has been “‘unfaithfully’ executing his duties” by publicly pointing the finger at Barack Obama for wire-tapping communications at Trump offices in New York.

Neither the President nor White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer have offered any evidence to support this claim, according to The Independent.

Trump has also been subject to allegations of conflict of interest for having maintained business relationships in foreign countries.

“Trump is making big money off his Trump International Hotel by steering foreign diplomatic delegations to it, and will make a bundle off China’s recent decision to grant his trademark applications for the Trump brand – decisions Chinese authorities arrived at directly because of decisions Trump has made as president,” said Reich.

Trump’s persistence with his foreign business ties has created entanglements with the Emoluments Clause of the Constitution, which bans the acceptance of foreign gifts without approval from Congress.

Reich argues that the current President is also guilty of violating the First Amendment in two different ways.

By implementing an immigration ban on all citizens of six Muslim-majority countries, Trump has created a law “respecting an establishment of religion or prohibiting the free exercise thereof.”

Trump’s revised travel ban falls under this classification, according to Reich’s tweet.

To compound that same alleged violation, Trump’s open criticism of the media could be additional grounds to judge the President guilty of breaching the First Amendment, and therefore judge him as eligible for impeachment.

Lastly, if collusion between the Trump administration and Russian diplomats is proved to have existed, it could implicate Trump in further violations of the Constitution.

“Article III Section 3 of the Constitution defines ‘treason against the United States’ as ‘adhering to their enemies, giving them aid and comfort,” stated Reich.

“Evidence is mounting that Trump colluded with Russian operatives to win the 2016 presidential election.”

Several members of Trump’s inner-circle of family and political advisers have already revealed past meetings with Russian diplomats.

“The question is no longer whether there are grounds to impeach Trump,” said Reich. “The practical question is whether there is the political will.”

“As long as Republicans remain in the majority in the House (where a bill of Impeachment originates), it’s unlikely,” continued Reich.

“Another reason why it’s critically important to flip the House in 2018.”
