GOP Strategist: Clinton Could Win 400 Electoral Votes (Video)

GOP strategist Steve Schmidt predicts that Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton will win the November election by an electoral landslide, endangering the Republicans’ majority in Congress (video below).

Schmidt had been a consultant for former President George W. Bush’s reelection campaign in 2004 and served as Republican Sen. John McCain’s campaign manager in 2008.

On Oct. 19, Schmidt offered a grave prognosis for Republicans in the 2016 presidential election during an appearance on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe.”

The GOP consultant asserted that Clinton was projected to win by a margin not seen since former President George H.W. Bush routed Democratic nominee Michael Dukakis in 1988, according to Mediaite.

“I think she’s trending over 400,” Schmidt said of Clinton’s projected electoral votes. There are only 538 electoral votes in a presidential election, and it only takes 270 to win.

Schmidt added that Democratic lawmakers would retake the Senate majority and he predicted that the House majority would be a close call.

“If this election was today, I think Republicans are down 25 seats as of today, with the trend line going in the wrong direction,” Schmidt said.

“The panic is beginning,” the GOP strategist concluded.

Schmidt accurately predicted Trump’s rise in the GOP primary, asserting as early as August 2015 that the business mogul would steamroll his Republican competition.

Following the first two presidential debates and leaked audio of Trump bragging about kissing and groping women without consent in 2005, Schmidt concluded that the business mogul has no chance of winning the general election.

“The Trump campaign is over — Hillary Clinton is going to be elected president,” Schmidt told Vox on Oct. 14. “The question that remains here, the open question, is the degree of collateral damage… The Republicans are going to lose the U.S. Senate. The question is how many seats can they lose in the House.”

Schmidt predicted that Trump’s potential loss could spark an outright civil war in the GOP that could lead to two new, smaller parties.

“There will be the alt-right party; then there will be a center right conservative party… The market will demand a center-right party,” Schmidt concluded.

Aggregating the last 12 national polls released since Oct. 13, RealClearPolitics found that Clinton currently leads a four-way race with an average 6.2 percentage point edge.

Polling website FiveThirtyEight currently projects Clinton to win the November election with roughly 342 electoral votes. They also give Democrats a 77 percent chance of retaking the Senate while projecting the GOP to only have a 23 percent chance of preserving their majority.
