Heroic Mother Dies Saving Child From Hit-And-Run
A Connecticut mother tried to save her daughter from a hit-and-run accident, resulting in her own death.
Forty-year-old Dania Cedeno-Delrosario and her 7-year-old daughter Denisse were returning to their home after stopping by Cedeno-Delrosario’s sister’s house, according to WABC.
“We went to my auntie’s house, but she was in the shower, she told me, so that’s why we went back home,” Denisse said.
As the pair were crossing the street, police say an approaching car crashed into them and then sped away.
“And it pushed both of us, and it pushed her very hard,” said Denisse.
The girl’s mom heroically pushed her out of the way so she wouldn’t get hurt. The car struck Dania instead, flinging her underneath a parked White Jeep.
“That my mom is under a Jeep, a white jeep and someone crashed her,” Denisse told police.
Denisse then ran inside the house to ask her grandmother for assistance.
The mother suffered severe wounds to her head and chest and later died at the hospital, reports CBS News.
Because of Dania’s selfless action, Denisse walked out alive with only a scraped arm and bandaged foot.
Dania emigrated from the Dominican Republic two years ago to provide her children with a better life.
Family members say the mother of two was a hardworking and selfless woman who would do anything for her family. She worked as a travel agent by day, and an elderly caretaker by night.
Authorities are still searching for the driver, whose car was a dark-colored Nissan with a missing side mirror, which investigators found at the scene.
