Texas Family Finds Neighbor’s Body Floating In Home, Then Cops Make 2nd Shocking Discovery
Looters reportedly stole from a flooded home in Houston while the 89-year-old homeowner’s body was still floating inside the house.
Agnes Stanley drowned in floodwaters caused by Hurricane Harvey at her home in the Meyerland neighborhood of Houston, according to the Daily Mail. Her body was found floating in roughly 4 feet of water by her neighbor after she chose to stay at home during the storm.
Stanley’s neighbor, Michele Poche, found the elderly woman’s body in her home after calling the woman’s son and asking for his permission to check on her.
Poche said Stanley “had great difficulty getting around,” adding, “She was not ambulatory, neighbors brought her paper every day, brought her coffee, we all kind of pitched in to take care of her.”
When she went to check on her elderly neighbor, she was shocked and disturbed to find her body in the water.
“We saw that she was under the water and we backed out and called 911,” Poche told KTRK. “We think that the water got too high and she may have drowned.”
Before police and the coroner arrived at the home, looters reportedly broke in and stole some of Stanley’s belongings. Her house was one of three on her street targeted by looters.
Poche said that Stanley “was still in there” when the looters broke in.
“The coroner was not able to get in until [Aug. 31] to pick her body up,” she said. “Yeah, they broke into her house and stole stuff, too.”
Houston Police are searching for the thieves and hope to prevent other families from having their property stolen in the aftermath of the hurricane.
The Harris County Medical Examiner confirmed 29 storm-related deaths, reports KTRK. The number is expected to rise as more residents begin to return to their homes.

“If you are caught looting you should face jail time without any question, put in chains and brought out made to go around helping to clean up and then back in jail until the next day when you go out and start clean up again,” one reader commented.
“I don’t have words to say about this horrible and sad report,” another user wrote. “I’m praying for all of you in Texas. Might I suggest that keep records of serial numbers of valuables so if the property shows up in a pawn shop, maybe the a**h**** can be tracked down.”
